Master Bath Reno in Northville

Complete Demo & Remodel

The existing master bath was original and the owners wanted a modified layout consisting of joining the two separate vanities, getting rid of the old drop in, triangular rub and adding a sauna.

Heated floors were installed throughout this spacious bathroom along with an enlarged shower area. The design and finishes were by Haven & Company in Plymouth. New Andersen 400 Series windows were also installed in the bathroom.

Two Story Garage In Plymouth

Custom Garage

This is a custom built two story garage with a mix of attic trusses and conventional framing. There is a dormer on the roof to add aesthetics and valuable space on the second floor along with a covered side entrance and "eyebrow" roof over the overhead door. The exterior is clad with 4" clapboard James Hardie Siding painted at the factory with a custom color. The trim boards are also custom painted with a mixture of Azek boards for the fascias and rakes and James Hardie boards. Andersen windows were installed with black painted exteriors.

Permanent stairs were built to the second floor to allow for a future office/work space. A 60 amp breaker panel was installed for all electrical work.

Porch Renovation

Here is a beautiful covered porch completed in the spring. The old deck in front was removed and new post footings installed. The porch deck in Trex Transcend and the railings are Trex Signature black aluminum. Trex lighting was installed on the risers of the steps. The columns and headers were wrapped with Azek trim boards . Vinyl soffit and aluminum trim were installed on the overhangs to match the house. Vinyl shakes in the gable of the porch. The roof is standing seam steel in black.

Complete 2nd Floor Renovation

This project consisted of taking the entire roof off the house and rebuilding the second floor to include three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The design was simple as the owner wanted to keep the original style in mind and blend in with the existing neighborhood. A second furnace and A/C were added to ensure a properly heated and cooled space. The original porch was taken down as well and a new covered porch added with a tongue and groove cedar ceiling and Trex porch and railings. The rear of the first floor was also bumped out to make room for a new mudroom, full bath and enlarged kitchen. New hardwoods were blended into the existing and stained with a whitewash.

The exterior is James Hardie Dream Color Lap siding and trim boards to match the garage that was build previously.

Northville Kitchen Remodel

Northville Kitchen Renovation

This project consisted of adding more space to the existing living room, adding a new fireplace and raising the floors, remodeling the kitchen and installing new Andersen windows in both spaces. Once the floors were raised to the kitchen level, new oak hardwoods were installed and blended in to the existing flooring. Everything was sanded and stained with a very light color. The entryways into the kitchen were raised and arched.

Cabinets are by Dura Supreme. The tops are quartzite and the clients chose to have them installed for the backsplash and up to the ceiling. The installers did a wonderful job on the backsplash and waterfall feature on the island.

The exterior was covered with James Hardie Siding and trim to match the existing house.

Master Suite Addition In Plymouth

This project was for a past customer who wanted to build a master suite onto their home. We installed the new James Hardie siding and Andersen windows on this home a few years back so we were able to match all the siding, trim and windows to make the addition look like it was already part of the 1929 built home.

We turned their existing master bedroom into a sitting room and first floor laundry.

Hardwood flooring was installed throughout the addition to match the existing floors. The bedroom features a shiplap wall and his and hers walk-in closets with custom shelving.

Finally, the master bath has his and hers vanities and pantries with quartz tops, heated floors (including in the walk-in shower) and a Schluter trough style drain.

Here is a 30'x 40' frame garage with 10′ walls. The studs are 2"x 6". Standard web trusses were used for the roof. The siding is Mastic Board & Batten with white trim.

Custom Garage in Royal Oak

This is a custom garage that we just completed in Royal Oak. The garage measures 30-by-24-feet. The walls are 9 feet high, and there is a full set of permanent stairs to the loft area.

The homeowner will be using the loft area as office space so, he decided to have radiant heating installed in the concrete floor (see photo). This tubing connects to a manifold system that will heat the water in the tubes and supply plenty of heat throughout the garage.

The custom garage was built conventionally so as to maximize the space in the loft area. In order to do so, a large steel beam was needed to support the floor system.

There were four Velux roof windows installed between the rafters. These windows are unique in that they can be opened at the bottom like a normal skylight, but they can also be brought down at the top. This allows the user to rotate the window 180 degrees for cleaning.

The homeowner chose a very sleek looking vinyl siding color called “Misty Shadow” by Mastic. The trim color is called Linen and is also by Mastic Siding.

A 100 amp electrical service was installed in the garage for the homeowner to run his air compressors and welders.

Also included in the project was insulation. We used Nu-Wool cellulose insulation in the rafters and end walls.

Overall, the project went very well and the customer has been extremely pleased. The next step will be to install drywall and a heater and air conditioning unit upstairs, so stay tuned for more pictures.

Livonia Custom Garage

This was a beautiful, custom-built, 24-by-30-foot frame garage that we created for a client in Livonia named Jeff. His goal was to move his woodshop out of the basement and into a more comfortable space.

The garage is 24 x 30 feet with 10-foot walls (2-by-6-inch) and a set of permanent stairs that lead to an attic with lots of storage. Jeff wanted the custom garage to mimic the look of his custom-built home, so we used the same brand of roofing and siding materials. We also used the same windows and even the bricks that were left over from the original build more than twenty years ago. The designer shingles used were GAF Grand Sequoia. The siding consisted of CertainTeed products, including Carolina Beaded Siding in the gables and Board & Batten on the walls. The 200 Series wood windows with vinyl cladding on the outside are from Andersen Windows. Finally, the two overhead doors are by Richards Wilcox.

Inside the custom garage, we installed a 100 amp electrical panel for all of Jeff’s woodworking power tools. We also ran a gas line for a commercial grade heating system.

For insulation, we used Nu-Wool cellulose blown-in insulation in the walls and ceiling. After we installed the drywall Jeff went to work on painting and installing DRIcore flooring. Then it was time to move in! We visited Jeff after all of his equipment was up and running, and the new shop was truly impressive. In fact, it would make the guys at This Old House green with envy.

Plymouth Garage

This is a 23-by-26-foot savoy gable custom garage near downtown Plymouth. The homeowners wanted a loft with storage, so we went with attic trusses and a permanent set of stairs. This allowed for 14 feet of space from side to side and just over 7 feet 2 inches of height in the middle of the loft. Lots of storage!

We used Mastic siding in the color Scottish Thistle for both the horizontal and cedar shake sidings. The windows are also by Mastic.

Custom Garage in Ferndale, MI

Our client in Ferndale, Michigan wanted to have a loft for storage but also wanted to have enough clearance for a car lift. For this custom 22’x 26’ reverse gable garage, we were able to use storage trusses for half of the garage and scissor trusses for the other half to achieve the necessary height.

The overhead doors are by Richards Wilcox. We special ordered a specific track system that followed the pitch of the trusses so as not to take up too much valuable car lift space. The door is operated by a jackshaft opener by Liftmaster that mounted next to the track system on the front wall and out of the way.

On the exterior we used Mastic Ventura vinyl soffit on all of the overhangs and aluminum trim on the rakes and eaves. The walls and gables and covered with James Hardie HardiePlank lap siding and HardieTrim boards. The dormers are covered with HardieShingle siding.

James Hardie Makeover In Plymouth

This beautiful home near downtown Plymouth underwent a complete facelift along with the construction of a new custom garage. Our architect designed new covered porches for the front and rear of the home and matched the existing overhangs. The new front porch roof extends across the whole width of the house and new square columns were also custom built and wrapped with Certainteed PVC boards to capture the craftsman style design of the home.

The new garage was constructed with pre-engineered attic trusses for additional storage. Pull down stairs were installed for easy access to the loft area. The overhead door is by Richards Wilcox with window inserts to match the prairie style grid pattern of the rest of the windows.

After the rough framing for the porches and garage was completed our crew installed new Andersen casement windows throughout the home in black.

Lastly, new James Hardie siding and Hardie Trim boards were installed on the house and garage. As a result of the application requirements for James Hardie siding, a layer of plywood and housewrap had to be installed over the existing lap wood siding of the entire house. Iron Gray is the color of the siding along with white trim around all of the windows. A hidden vent vinyl soffit system was installed on all overhangs and aluminum trim on all rakes, eaves and flashing. Finally, black aluminum gutters were installed to match the color of the windows for a nice contrast.

Overall this project turned out beautifully and the homeowners were very happy with the results. Many passersby stopped to check out the progress as the project went on and were very impressed with the quality of the workmanship and materials being used. We have received quite a few calls from this job as the James Hardie products are a great way to increase the value of your home, not to mention its curb appeal!

Three Car Custom Garage

Here is a beautiful custom three car garage completed in downtown Plymouth. The homeowner had just purchased this early 1900’s home and wanted to build a custom garage that would emulate the look of the house as much as possible.

The size of this particular garage is 30′ wide by 22′ deep. Our architect took into consideration the look of the existing front porch of the home and incorporated a 4′ porch for the garage along with three craftsman style posts for an added touch.

A shed dormer was also added with a standing seam metal roof to complete the desired look.

For the exterior we used Owens Corning Duration shingles on the roof to match the house. All of the siding, trim and soffits are by James Hardie. We added the HardieShingle siding on the shed dormer and wrapped the custom built columns in the HardiePanel to match the color of the siding. The overhead doors are by Richards Wilcox.

The house had some custom cut outs on the eave boards and the homeowner wanted to try to match them on the garage which our carpenters had no trouble with and they turned out wonderfully.

Brick Bungalow Dormer In Plymouth

This addition on Evergreen St. in Plymouth consisted of adding a master suite and loft area to an existing bungalow. The brick on the two end gables was taken down and James Hardie siding added to the second floor to give a more seamless look to the overall appearance. A shed dormer with a metal roof was also added to the front of the home to add much needed space and natural light to the existing office area on the second floor.

We also took out the existing vent from the front gable of the home, added a window and a new limestone surround that matched the original stone that was installed around the door and windows.

Overhangs were added to the side rakes as well as shed overhangs to break up the space between the brick and James Hardie siding. Overall a very nice design.

Scissor trusses were used for the new space to create a cathedral ceiling in the master bedroom and loft. Hardwood floors were added to match the existing oak flooring on the first floor. A second furnace and A/C were also added to give the entire upstairs its own climate control.

In the final design the architect was able to turn the existing front gable attic space into a new walk-in closet area that was accessible from the new master bath.

Finally, the homeowners made very nice selections for the bathroom tile and vanities.

This is a 28’x 24′ custom garage with attic trusses and loft area. Building the shed dormer on the front of the garage really added significant space to the upstairs and a much larger feel to the living area. The homeowner wanted to create a livable space upstairs so insulation was added as well as a mini-split heating and cooling unit.

A separate electrical service panel was installed to accommodate the heating/cooling unit as well as an outlet for the homeowner’s electric vehicle.
